Purpose of the Campaign

This fund-raising campaign was founded in 1999 towards the end of the Millennium,

on a radical belief that one-hour earnings per year of working people throughout the world can positively make a difference in young people's lives all around the world.
The concept originated in the United Kingdom as "Children's Promise" in 1998 under the leadership of PM Tony Blair and the New Millennium Experience Company, along with the generous support from Marks & Spencer plc.
Then the idea had taken on global significance under the name Children's Hour, led by International Youth Foundation and its network of partners, programs, and people.

This first global Campaign successfully resulted in raising the equivalent of US$12.8 million from 52 countries in total, which was invested in the development of the activities by non-profit organizations contributing to the positive development of children and youth around the world, including Japan

IYF-Japan has stayed on the idea in the following year.

In the past two campaigns, a total fund of more than \40 million has been raised from 18 various kinds of organizations, and 41,000 individual donors in Japan. This fund was invested in 20 domestic programs, and 3 overseas programs in Thailand, Mexico and the Philippines .

And as in the first and second Campaigns, the 70% of the money raised in the third year will be used to support strengthening and spreading the effective activities/programs fitting in the needs of children and youth in Japan.
The rest, the 30%, will be directed to organizations and partners worldwide that have proven effective programs for children and youth.
15% of the total fund raised through the campaign will be used for general administration of screening and follow-ups of the effective programs.
